Scientific and economic cooperation of entities from the Opolskie and Dolnośląskie regions with partners in India is the goal of the first Indo-European Center (IEC) in Poland, which was officially opened on Thursday, 10th May 2018 at the University of Applied Sciences in Nysa. In the meeting took part Mr. Kartikey Johri Honorary Consul of Republic of India in Wrocław, Prof. Tomasz Drewniak, Vice Rector, PWSZ in Nysa, representatives of Opole Voivodeship, Nysa, entrepreneurs and local media.

The event was also an opportunity  to meet with the regional authorities and business representatives and be familiarizing with the potential and possibilities of developing cooperation with Indian market.

The Indo-European Center aims to create a bridge between Poland, India and the European Union, with particular emphasis on the needs of the Opole and Dolny Śląsk Region. This goal will be pursued through academic cooperation with partner universities in India and a number of educational activities and business meetings.

"As part of the project  the didactic, scientific and organizational potential of the University of Applied Sciences in Nysa will be used for incubation and development of cooperation between enterprises in Nysa region and Indian companies and institutions. We hope that the effect of cooperation, apart from supporting the development of the University's economic and social environment, will also be the further internationalization of the education process, scientific research and their practical use "- said dr Tomasz Drewniak, doc. PWSZ in Nysa - Vice Rector for Science and Development.

India's economy is growing at a rate of 7% of GDP, the fastest among all G20 members. It is estimated that before 2030 India will overtake China in terms of population, but it will also become the third economy in the world. Many countries use this moment to increase their presence in this market. Also, the Poles have just begun to discover it, as evidenced by the constantly growing trade between the two countries. Today, it's about 3 billion dollars, and in a moment they are expected to reach 5 billion dollars.

"Having in mind the potential of the region and  several years of experience of the PWSZ in Nysa in cooperation with India, we will strengthen and intensify activities aimed at deepening and building new relations between Poland and India using good cooperation between the academic community and industry" - said Dr. Pradeep Kumar, President of the Foundation and lecturer at the PWSZ in Nysa.

It is worth to highlight that during the first meeting specific projects and business needs have already appeared. We hope that the effects of cooperation will be visible soon.

Special thanks to our speakers: Mrs. Anna Opałka, Head of International Department, PWSZ, Dr Pradeep Kumar, President of IEEF and faculty member, PWSZ Nysa, Dr Piotr Chwastyk, Head of Innovation Centre, PWSZ, Krzysztof ZdanowskiSumma Linguae and Eksperts form BGK.
